I get why he did this but it seemed like overkill. The two elements didn’t seem to blend very well.īlake leads the reader through the series of unfortunate events that make Chris’ life and how he’s blamed for murders and pretty much anything bad that happens in the town. I found myself wondering if it was mainly about the grave-robbing neighbor or the girl who performs rituals to make bad things happen to people. It was easy to become interested with Bemishstock and Chris’ experiences.Ībout halfway through, Blake introduces spiritual and ritualistic practices and while that sounds intriguing, it became unclear what the main focus of the story was. It was sent in 1985 and the story was character driven. One thing I really enjoyed was the setting which was reminiscent of a Stephen King novel.
